BBQ Judge

Bryan, Superior Signals, Inside Sales Representative - Olathe, KS

Some of my favorite things to do are gardening with my wife Jenny, spending time at the Overland Park Arboretum, playing with our two dogs as well as grilling and BBQ-ing when the weather cooperates. Fun Fact: I was a BBQ judge at the Lenexa BBQ for 11 years. It was always a lot of fun, very hot, but a lot of fun.

There were seven categories to be judged on appearance, tenderness and taste.  The five main categories are whole animal, chicken, pork, brisket, and ribs with two additional categories of sausage and a miscellaneous category. Let me tell you, miscellaneous means miscellaneous. You could have anything from fish to rattlesnake in that category, and yes, it was my least favorite category to judge. My favorite category, or should I say categories, to judge were chicken and ribs. I haven’t been a judge for the past several years, it just got to be too much sitting in a hot tent eating BBQ for three or more hours.
