Sailing Away

Larry, Materials - Olathe, KS

I’ve always been an outdoors type of guy. I like camping, but I especially love being on the water, any body of water. I’ve been around powerboats my entire life, but three years ago I decided to give sail boats a try. I saw some sailing out on the lake one day and they really caught my eye. I don’t know what it was, but it looked fun and challenging. Learning new things has always been something that I enjoyed doing and I couldn’t imagine a better time than trying something new and being out on the water at the same time. So I bought myself a 20-foot day sailor and fell in love.

I admit, I didn’t know the first thing about sailing. So I signed up for sailing certification class. At first, it was very challenging. I had a hard time figuring out all of the rigging, but my instructor was great. He had me bring my boat to the next class and we went over it and over it until it became second nature.

Today, I take my sailboat out onville Lake every chance I get. There is nothing better than spending the day out at the lake sailing and relaxing. My next goal is to get my coastal certification. Someday, hopefully sooner rather than later, I’d love to get a larger boat and sail up and down the coast.t
