Culturally Aware

Olga, Customer Development Adviser CS – Waregem

I was born in Brest, Belarus, a town on the border of Poland. Having a half Polish grandmother, a Ukrainian grandfather and a Russian father has helped make me very aware of different cultures and languages. This in turn not only benefited me in my private life in Belgium, but in my professional life as well. My love, my husband Edwin, is who brought me to Belgium in 2003.

My hobbies include cross stitching in the cold months and gardening in the warm months. I adapted my way of choosing the topics for my embroideries, no more flowers, cats or birds, now I use some personal interests of my family and friends in Belgium. For example, for my husband who works in IT, I embroidered a ‘Computer in love’ picture, which he keeps on his desk.

A large part of my time outside of work is spent being a 'taxi' mother. I am constantly taking my kids to and from swimming, jodo and chess clubs.

In 2007, I joined the TVH family. I love my job, I get to work for a company where I can use my knowledge of all of the languages I speak, as well as my knowledge of the cultural differences of our East European customers.

One of my favorite quotes is from Aristotle, 'The more you know, the more you know you don't know.' It is this quote that gives me a boost to keep studying. Therefore, I study a lot so I never get a chance to get bored because I’m always learning new things.
