Roman, Import logistics and warehouse manager - Russia
If there is someone I admire it is my brother-in-law, Nikolay. He was in a motorcycle accident that left him disabled and in a wheelchair for the rest of his life. His life, as well as ours, was changed in a matter of moments. The government of Moscow had to install a special lift and self-opening doors in the building for him, and we had to completely change the space in our apartment. However, he did not let this slow him down. With willpower, perseverance and family support he began rebuilding his life. Nikolay always had a passion for fitness and decided to train and compete in professional bodybuilding.
Recently, he competed at the National Bodybuilding Community (NBC) show. He was the only participant in a wheelchair and took home the 1st place trophy in the Paralympic category. I tell this story because I think that it shows no matter what goals you might have in life, you can always reach them. The journey might not be how you envision it, but you will get there by taking one step at a time.
Seeing my brother-in-law go through life prompted me to change my life. I now look at people with disabilities differently and realize how blessed I am. My family and I are also following his lead and have begun working out at the local fitness center and we enjoy going swimming together. Our family also shares a love of the Russian football club, Spartak. We even have a dog named Sparta. My brother-in-law has helped me get to where I am now.
